Information for 10th Grade Students/Families

Tue, 10/10/2023 - 11:01am

On October 11th, Wilde Lake High School will be administering the Preliminary SAT (PSAT) to 10th grade students. PSAT Testing Room assignments will be distributed to students on Friday, October 6th and posted in the school for review.

The PSAT is an important test because it not only helps students become eligible for scholarships but will help students know how they would do on an SAT and what areas they may want to focus on to study when they take the SAT. This test is also used to help decide what classes they will be taking next year.

This year, students will access the PSAT test with the BlueBook app on their HCPSS Chromebook devices. On test day, students will need to bring their fully-charged HCPSS chromebook and charger to test. They must use the school issued Chromebook for this. If they have never picked up their Chromebook they should go to the school media center prior to Wednesday to get one.  Students will verify their access to the BlueBook app in their English class on Friday, 10/6. 10th grade students will need their chromebook on Friday, 10/6 and for the PSAT’s on 10/11.

Other electronic devices (including, but not limited to, cell phones, earbuds, and smart watches, etc.) are NOT permitted during testing. Students should leave these at home or in locked lockers or they may be placed into backpacks and stored at the front of their testing room. Any unapproved electronic device violation will be reported to CollegeBoard, scores may be invalidated, and devices may be confiscated.

Students should arrive on time in order to be able to participate. It is imperative that students arrive at school on time or they may not be able to participate.

For students receiving accommodations, please note that the only accommodations given during the PSAT are those that have been approved by the College Board. Contact your student’s case manager for more information about requesting accommodations through College Board for future testing.

For more information about the PSAT, you can view the College Board website or the PSAT/NMSQT (Grade 10/11) Student Guide: https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/media/pdf/psat-nmsqt-student-guide.pdf

Calculators
If you have a graphing calculator, you may bring it on test day. Graphing calculators will also be available on the chromebooks the students will be using for the PSAT.
