*What to Bring: Water bottle (large size), cleats OR turf shoes (soccer/field hockey/football), sneakers (cross country/volleyball/cheer), school-issued equipment (football), appropriate equipment for field hockey/soccer/volleyball owned by the athlete. Please contact your sport-specific coaches for questions about equipment, etc. All should have sneakers in case practices are moved indoors.

Golf details will be shared at the August 14th meeting with Coach Harrison at 10 a.m. in the cafeteria at Wilde Lake High School.

Athletic Registration Information:

Instructions for Sports Registration (additional attachment provided with instructions as well): DUE BY: Monday, August 12th (DO NOT SEND DOCUMENTS VIA EMAIL; FOLLOW ALL DIRECTIONS)

1. Go to  https://www.hcpss.org/connect/

2. Do NOT use your Mobile Phone;

3. Login to your HCPSS Connect Portal (Parents & Guardian MUST use the parental login.  Using your students log in info. will not allow you to register); Once logged in, go to the menu on the left and click the bottom option More Options (Family File, Reports Cards, etc.).  ​If you have more than one student, make sure you have selected the student from the drop-down menu at the top of the page.)

4. Scroll down and click on "Athletic Registration" in the middle of the screen;

5. Complete all the forms: Athletic Participation, Concussion Information Sheet, Concussion Testing Program, Covid 19 Awareness, and Sudden Cardiac Arrest Information Sheet…Do not skip forms or leave any boxes blank.

6. Upload the following forms: Physical Examination Form: Verification of an examination after April 1 or within 12 months of the tryout date for the particular sport must be submitted in each academic year of participation. Upload ALL pages of the Physical Examination Form.  Older physicals will not be accepted. https://www.hcpss.org/athletics/forms-and-guidelines/ (Physical Forms can be found here to bring to the doctor’s office).

7. Upload a RECENT Utility bill (Dated June 1, 2024, at the earliest); it must be the actual bill.  Older Utility bills before June 1, 2024, will NOT be accepted.  Utility examples: BGE OR Water.  **No Cell Phone OR Mortgage Bills will be accepted**

 Common Errors:

· File size may be too big on downloads. Make sure the document is under 4MB

· Just because forms have been submitted, that does not necessarily mean they have been accepted

· AAM will go through to ensure proper dates, signatures, boxes checked off, and address matches Synergy address.

**Reminder: Physicals for Athletics differ from those used to register for school. The Athletic Physical includes a Clearance without restrictions by Medical Staff.

Please ensure physicals have all signatures (Parent/Guardian, Athlete, and Physician) before scanning and uploading. Fall 2024 physicals can be used for the Winter 2024 and Spring 2025 seasons; winter physicals can be used for the Spring. Athletes will need a new physical for the next school year, dated no earlier than April 1st of the previous school year.

**Returning Athletes a Student-Athlete is returning from Fall to play in the Winter and/or Spring season and wants to use the fall physical, the parent/guardian must click the checkbox (option to use physical on file dated) and save.  Otherwise, it’ll wait for a new one to be uploaded.  Returning athletes must complete permission information and upload a new utility bill.

Eligibility for Athletics

For high school, a full-time student earns academic eligibility to participate in extracurricular activities by maintaining a 2.0 grade-point average (GPA), calculated using credit or non-credit courses, with no more than one failing grade for the marking period, which governs eligibility for that activity.

*Returning Students: 4th Quarter Grades are used for fall athletic eligibility

*Incoming 9th graders: NO academic eligibility requirement for fall sports.

Frequently Asked Questions

1.  Do we need to turn in all paperwork or complete online registration before an athlete is allowed to tryout?  Yes

2.  How long are tryouts?  Student athletes are given 3 days from the scheduled start date for tryouts

3.  When do practices begin after tryouts?  Regular practices begin immediately after rosters are finalized at the end of tryout period.

4.  What is the roster size for _______ team ?  Each team roster is determined by the coaching staff.

5.  How many courses do I need to be registered for my Senior year to be eligible to participate? HCPSS requires "One on campus" course

6.  Why do we have to begin on a particular date (i.e., August 14 for Fall, November 15 for Winter, and March 1 for Spring)? The MPSSAA establishes start dates for all sports in Maryland

Spectator Expectations: Be a fan, not a fanatic!
 

In order to provide a pleasant, safe environment for all spectators and participants, all those attending interscholastic athletic events are asked to abide by the Board of Education’s Civility Policy, to refrain from:

• Intimidating or harassing the players, coaches, officials or fans.

• Using profanity.

• Throwing objects.

• Entering the playing area.

• Loitering in the hallways or on school grounds.

If a spectator of any age is ejected from a contest, he/she must leave the school property and shall have no contact with the officials, players, school personnel, or other spectators. Furthermore, such actions could result in the issue of a trespass letter, Denial of Access, or a ban from future athletic events at all schools. Admission is a privilege, not a license to display rude or offensive behavior.

Winter Sports Registration is Now Open!!

Winter Tryouts are scheduled to begin on Wednesday, November 15th.

 

STUDENT-ATHLETES WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TRY OUT WITHOUT A COMPLETE REGISTRATION.

 

Note: You will need to complete a new registration for each season.

Athletic Rules of Conduct

At all Howard County athletic events, we strive to provide a pleasant and safe environment for all spectators and participants. We ask fans to refrain from:

  • Intimidating or harassing the players, coaches, officials, or fans
  • Using profanity
  • Throwing objects
  • Entering the playing area
  • Loitering in the hallways or on the grounds
  • Those who fail to abide by the Rules of Conduct will be asked to leave the contest, and could result in a trespass letter banning the spectator from future athletic events at the school.

Admission is a privilege to observe a contest, not a license to display insensitive or offensive behavior. Enjoy the event! Be a fan, not a fanatic!
