To honor the LIFE and LEGACY of the Wilde Lake High School teacher, Laura’s family established a scholarship fund, in partnership with the Bright Minds Foundation, to benefit Wilde Lake High School seniors planning to major in the social sciences. Laura joined HCPSS in 2007 as a social studies teacher at Murray Hill Middle School and transferred to Wilde Lake High School in 2014 where she worked until her untimely death in September, 2017.
Laura believed in the amazing potential of each of her students and in each person’s ability to have a positive impact on our world. As an educator, she changed the lives of many for the better. This memorial scholarship embodies her values and her belief in the power and potential of the students at Wilde Lake High School.
The Laura E. Wallen Memorial Scholarship is intended to help Wilde Lake High School graduates who wish to major in one of the social sciences to pursue college studies at a two or four-year institution. Winners will receive between $1,000 and $2,500, which can be used to pay tuition, fees, or the cost of books.
Scholarship applications will be available for submission February 10th through April 23rd.
