Welcome From the Black Student Achievement Program

BSAP is a program established in 1986 in the Howard County Public School System. Its mission since its inception has been to provide advocacy for African American students as they build their confidence, leadership skills, and self-image. This school year, BSAP will continue to support its African American students of Wilde Lake to be equipped with strategies and tools to de-stress along with develop a healthy mindset for success and growth. Students will also have an opportunity to explore the richness of African American History and develop healthy relationships with themselves and others. The theme for this year will be centered around changing the narrative so students can confidently overcome whatever impediments or obstacles that may hinder their success and self-actualization. These obstacles can be self-doubt, fear, low self-esteem, anxiety, frustrations, anger, negative stereotypes, trauma or biases as a result of structural racism. In BSAP, students will develop the capacity to work through these potential challenges to grow not only as students but also as human beings.

BSAP addresses the diverse spectrum of ALL African American student learners of all grades, not just the ones that may have low academic performance. BSAP prides itself on addressing student social/emotional factors that may impact academic outcomes. BSAP aims to present a narrative of success and empowerment through achievement and celebration and critical data analysis of Wilde Lake High School.
